Richard A. Bierschbach is Dean and Professor of Law at Wayne State University Law School. He was appointed dean on August 17, 2017.

Career

Bierschbach received his B.A. from the University of Michigan and his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School. Afterwards, he was a law clerk for Judge A. Raymond Randolph of the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit (1997-98) and for Justice Sandra Day O'Connor of the Supreme Court of the United States (2000-01). He served as an attorney-advisor for the Department of Justice's Office of Legal Counsel as well as working as a Bristow Fellow in the Office of the Solicitor General (1997-98). He also worked for three New York international law firms--Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering (now WilmerHale), Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher, and Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe.

Bierschback was a law professor at Yeshiva University's Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City, where he specialized in alternative sentencing, criminal law, and white-collar crime. Bierschbach taught at Cardozo for 12 years beginning in 2003 as a visiting professor and was hired on a permanent basis in 2005. He taught corporate and administrative law to upper-level students, and served as vice dean in 2015-16.
